In August 2004, the Elastomers and Performance Additives Division of PolyOne spun off to form the privately held corporation of Excel Polymers, LLC.

This move created the Leading Global Merchant Supplier of Elastomer systems and services.

Excel Polymers has greater capability than any other manufacturer in the industry.

Our manufacturing sites consistently achieve a recordable incident rate of less than 1.5% annually compared to the industry’s recordable incident rate of over 7.0%. Based upon our incident rate, Excel Polymers is as safe as working in the banking industry, which has a comparable incident rate of 1.5%.

With 6 North American sites and 2 International sites (located in Foshan near Guangzhou, China and Dukinfield near Manchester, UK), Excel Polymers is globally positioned to meet the industry’s needs.

Lean/Six Sigma Manufacturing

  • Driving performance for long-term improvement
Lean Six Sigma is Excel Polymer’s business strategy that relentlessly pursues the reduction of waste and the elimination of variation throughout the value chain. Lean Six Sigma ensures responsiveness and drives a 6 sigma process capability in all business and manufacturing processes by:
    • Utilizing the Kaizen methodology
    • Enforcing a measurement-focused discipline
    • Driving cultural change aligned with a strategy
    • Data centered approach to reduce variation

Excel Polymers blends these two powerful approaches for problem solving, which assist our associates to manage process excellence, improve performance, and sustain benefits for the long term.

  • Lean
Lean is a systematic approach to identifying and eliminating waste through continuous improvement in pursuit of perfection. Lean has five basic principles: understanding customer value, value stream analysis, flow, pull and perfection.

  • Six Sigma
Six Sigma is a rigorous approach to statistical problem solving involving five phases: Define-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control (DMAIC). The objective is to determine statistically the key drivers of defects (“key X’s”) and then eliminate defects caused by these drivers.

By combining these two powerful approaches, Excel Polymers has implemented improved, more effective processes to yield fewer defects.

  • Lean/Six Sigma Delivered Results
    • Reduction in accident incident rate
    • Identification and implementation of cost reductions
    • Reduction in defective production
    • Customer order lead time reduction
    • Increasing production capacity through improved efficiency
    • Associates participated in team problem solving
